2016 Training Program Schedule

Signups are due by Friday, January 8th.
The classes meet each Wednesday from 6:30-8:00pm on UC’s campus, accommodating schedule for basketball conflicts where possible as well as classes.
- January 20th – Workshop #1: Leadership: The Beginning, The Foundation
- January 27th – Workshop #2: Conducting Fundamentals
- February 3rd – Workshop #3: Score Reading & Intermediate Conducting
- February 10th – Workshop #4: Vocal Commands & Advanced Conducting
- February 17th – Workshop #5: Guest Speaker & Conducting Mastery
- February 24th – Workshop #6: Final Review & Tryout Preparation

This fee is typically due by the second workshop session and can be paid online after you attend the first session.
2016 Training Certification Requirements

The Drum Major Society Training Program offers 3 levels of Certification.
Students choose voluntarily the path they wish to take and may adjust their preference as needed. Each level is designed to offer students a way to achieve higher levels of effective participation based on their availability and preference. The following guidelines exist per level to give students an idea of what will be expected of them once they select their path during the Training process.
*All Gold Star path students projects are eligible for Scholarship Community Service requirements for both High School and Collegiate level students.
GOLD STAR LEVEL
- Participation
- Actively participates in workshops and discussions.
- Leads a fifteen minute discussion/ presentation on a leadership topic at a scheduled workshop. Topic is pre-approved by the instructor. See guidelines for the presentation.
- Creates and participates in a community service project.
- Final project idea must be submitted by the final week in January and approved by the Board of Directors by the second week in February.
- The service project must have a goal.
- The service project must not have personal monetary profit.
- The service project must be completed, with a final summary report by the second week in March to the members of the Board.
- Audition
- Participates in the final Drum Major Tryout at the University of Cincinnati.
SILVER STAR LEVEL
- Participation
- Actively participates in workshops and discussions
- Leads a fifteen minute discussion/ presentation on a leadership topic at a scheduled workshop. Topic is pre-approved by the instructor. See guidelines for the presentation.
- Audition
- Participates in the final Drum Major Tryout.
BRONZE STAR LEVEL
- Participation
- Actively participates in workshops and discussions.
- Audition
- Participates in the final Drum Major Tryout.
